After you have checked the legitimacy of your school and are enrolled in an online nursing program, you will begin taking classes just as a classroom nursing student would. However, unlike a classroom student, your courses are not constricted to a set time every day nor confined to the same classroom every day. Instead, you may take your classes at any time and in any place as long as you have a computer capable of accessing the Internet. This allows for you to view your lectures and complete your coursework at times that are most convenient for you. All learning is done online. Lectures may take the form of pre-recorded videos, slide shows, or plain text. Coursework usually takes the form of essays or worksheets, which are completed and sent to the professor digitally through an online platform like WebCT or Blackboard. Examinations are conducted online as well, and these are subject to the same time restrictions that classroom examinations undergo. Nursing students have an additional duty to fulfill before they may earn their degree. They must complete clinicals, which are similar to professional internships. Students arrange to complete their clinicals in a health care facility approved by their online school. Their work is logged and reported to the school to count towards graduation requirements.
